And one more thing...Will GRRM Keep Up With HBO?

I meant to add this to the last post, but, what the hey. Here's another tidbit:

Will Martin Keep Up with Game of Thrones?: SFFWorld has a nice discussion about whether George RR Martin will be able to keep up with the writing of A Song of Ice and Fire as the HBO TV show unfolds. Survey says - Nope.
From Werthead: "we will see the end of ASoIaF on screen potentially years before GRRM produces the final novel."
Can't say I'm a big fan of that, but I think we can be almost guaranteed of its occurrence. Then again, opportunities like the show don't happen all the time, so you have to take advantage where you can. Maybe the final season or so will just have poor ratings - I don't think I could watch it before knowing the ending through paper.

I like Adam (Werthead), we've known each other for a long time. But he can be rather comical when it comes to GRRM. I remember back when it was announced that they were doing a TV show for the series. A few of us weren't thrilled with the idea. Adam actuall said a few times that a TV show should motivate GRRM to finish the series sooner. And now, Adam is singing a different tune. I'm not surprised, just amused.

As for the series - I doubt I'll watch the show until I finish the series. I'm not reading anymore books in the series until the whole thing is done.

There's no way I'd watch the series end on screen before I read it. The fact that this is a possibility is one of those things I like to not think about in hopes that it will go away.

It seems unjust that this Doomsday Scenario (yes, that's what I call it) could come to pass.

I may be making this up... but isn't there only meant to be two more books?

With book six on it's way, would the TV series have time to catch up? I mean in the UK we've only just seen episode 2 of season 2. in Britain there has been a year between series 1 and 2. That means that it will take at least 3 years to make the next three season, possibly even longer if the seasons 3 and 5 are split in two like the books are. Surely that is enough time to write and publish his last book?

(Of course if there is only two books remaining...)

@Neth - I think I remember those discussions. I think he's looking at it as if GRRM's already given up. ADWD was a huge pain it sounds like and I'm sure he'll take his time with the next two (or more).

I'll watch the series until the point where I am in the books, then I'll be waiting for sure.

@Ryan - I think I'll use that too, that's awesome. Doomsday Scenario. I honestly think it's more than likely. Sadly. I've been disappointed too many times, maybe that's why.

@adam-p-reviews

You must be new to GRRM. The safe bet is to expect each book to take 5 years to write. That puts the next book (The Winds of Winter) out in 2016 and the last book (A Dream of Spring) out in 2021. Don't expect them any sooner - if they do come sooner, great, we can be happy. But with his track record, expect longer if anything.

@adam - That kind of logic really should make sense...but I'm guessing you haven't heard of the travesty/phenomenon that was waiting over 6 years for A Dance with Dragons to come out and before that 5 years before A Feast for Crows. It spawned all kinds of hate, GRRMblers, Finish the Book, George, and others.

We can probably assume this ain't working out.

Lol! I definitely did not know that!! Ok fair enough, this argument seems to make a lot more sense to me now thanks guys ;)

Didn't mean to bombard you there, adam. :D

Ha no worries! i can't believe it has taken him that long to write his books!

Maybe the TV series will prompt him to get the last two books finished and published before the last season of the TV series comes out?

But if not, I'd agree with you guys, I wouldn't watch the shows before I read the books.
