eBook Deals - Hobb, Meikle, Vonnegut, Zahn, Brown, Sanderson, Card

Some great deals this week I just can't pass up. Assassin's Apprentice is a steal, what a great book. Also, I just started Heir to the Empire a week or so ago and here it is on sale. Great timing. I wonder if it's lost its value as a classic with the changes the new movies are making, not to mention declaring the EU is non-canon. It's been a great read either way and it makes sense to part from the books in my opinion, as great as they are.

[$0.99] Assassin's Apprentice (Farseer #1) by Robin Hobb
[$0.99] The Hole by William Meikle
[$1.82] The Sirens of Titan by Kurt Vonnegut - My favorite by Vonnegut.
[$1.99] Heir to the Empire (Thrawn #1) by Timothy Zahn - Reading this now and it's awesome.
[$1.99] Red Rising (Red Rising Trilogy #1) by Pierce Brown
[$2.99] The Way of Kings (Stormlight Archive #1) by Brandon Sanderson
[$3.99] Ender's Game (Ender #1) by Orson Scott Card

(audiobook) Review - Star Wars: Scoundrels by Timothy Zahn

With a cover like that, you're almost compelled to read Star Wars: Scoundrels. It oozes cool and then with the teaser that there's Han AND Lando. Happiness, that's what that is. Okay, this one wasn't perfect, but it was fun.

Like all my audiobook reviews now this one's over at sffaudio.com.

Updates and Excuses

I know posting's been sparse the last week or so and I apologize. I'm in that place where anything outside of bar studying just isn't happening, at least not effectively. I'm reading fine, I need the breaks whenever I can get them, but to actually sit down and review has proved ... difficult to say the least.

So, I figured I should give a quick update of what I'm reading and what you can hopefully expect soon.

But first, here's a sign at the local college where I've been studying. I think there's a reason it's called the Nook Color and not the other way around:

Sorry for the terrible picture that's not even focused on the thing I wanted to focus on. It's in the upper left corner of the sign.

As to what I'm reading, I've actually found audiobooks to really hit the spot lately. They don't take too much brain power and I don't have much to spare.

Finished (and in need of review):
-Star Wars: Scoundrels by Timothy Zahn - Audiobook (Good but not great and maybe closer to okay)
-The Eyes of the Overworld (Dying Earth #2) by Jack Vance - Audiobook (Excellent)

Currently reading:
-The Daylight War (Demon Cycle #3) by Peter V. Brett (Loving every second)
-Shadow Ops: Fortress Frontier (Shadow Ops #2) by Myke Cole (Great sequel so far)
-Gardens of the Moon (Malazan #1) by Steven Erikson - reread (I really shouldn't read anything concurrently with this, it's so good)
-World War Z by Max Brooks - Audiobook (Good, but not as great as I thought it would be)

eBook Deals, or Books I Bought Recently

Sadly, I missed posting the deal for Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell yesterday. I'd say it's worth full price anyway as it's easily in my top 10 all-time favorite books list. But, some good ones came out today that I'm right on top of.

[$3.99Tears in Rain by Rosa Montero - I'm definitely intrigued after reading Justin's review.
[$1.99] Winner Lose All: A Lando Calrissian Tale by Timothy Zahn - In preparation for Zahn's upcoming novel, Scoundrels, which looks really cool to say the least.
[FREE] Wool by Hugh Howey - This is the first tale (novella length) in the Wool series, might as well try it out.
[FREE] The Complete Sherlock Holmes - Most of the novels and short stories are free anyway, but only individually. This collects them all with the books chronologically and then the short stories chronologically. However, the books and short stories together are not chronological, but I still think this is your best bet.

Today Only:
[$1.99] The Color of Magic (Discworld #1) by Terry Pratchett
[$2.99] The Ruins of Gorlan (Ranger's Apprentice #1) by John Flanagan

EDIT: Also, all the deals in these last two eBook deals posts are still underway: Post 1, Post 2.
